Santorini Donkeys

!9#: Santorini Donkeys

When I heard for a first time about Donkey Tours in Santorini I said... Wait, what did you just said? Real donkey ride In year 2010? Immediately it took my curiosity to the highest peak of Himalayas...oh sorry I meant to the highest peak of Caldera. My interest drove me to the mysterious paths of Internet and here is what I have found out... It seems that Donkeys, some also refers to them as mules, played great role in transportation history of Santorini Island. Originally they were used in agriculture, house building and for transportation of cargo and passengers. Since they become part of society they were also been used in cultural events such as weddings where brides was riding well dressed donkeys to the church. Lately this local custom seems to attract the interest of young couples who wants to get married in Santorini.

Santorini Donkey at Old Harbor

When you approach to Santorini old harbor by sea you will notice the 220m rock wall of Thira. On top of that rock the principal town of Fira is located. There are three ways to get from the water's edge to the town above. The first way is reaching the top by foot... well if you carrying bags, wife and children with you I highly suggest to avoid it unless your plans include spending the rest of your vacation in bed with a back pain as a company. The zigzag walkway from sea to city is paved in stone, and because of the many switchbacks, the distance from one end to the other is 1300 meters. There are 657 steps on the walkway, and this natural stair-master provides a very good workout on a sunny day.

The second way is to take cable car, also known as the "teleferique", which was installed in 1979 to automate the process. This made things easier for tourists who had luggage to carry with them. The cable car ride lasts approximately 3 minutes (the wait can be fifteen minutes).

The third and the most fun way is to ride the donkey to the top or vice versa. Especially if you have children with you shouldn't miss this attraction since the experience of riding the mule will stay in their minds forever. Don't be afraid of Santorini donkeys because they love children and they are very friendly. They have the patience of Job and therefore are ideally suited to being around children. The ride takes almost one-half hour to go up, and just 15 minutes to come down. The down journey is faster and more thrilling for two reasons. First, descending is inherently easier, and second the donkey food is at the bottom of the walkway. It is a really joy riding them up to Fira or from Ia Village to Ammoudi Harbor.

Book Santorini Donkey

Normally you wouldn't book a Santorini Donkey because there is a big availability of them on Santorini Island, unless you plan some special occasion. Such occasion for example would be a wedding on Santorini Island. In that case you can contact one of many Santorini offices which can arrange everything for you: the donkey, the outfit, the donkey driver and photos. If you can't find anything just e-mail to Santorini-Car-Rental.com and we will help you.

Santorini Donkey Pricing

Safety Tips For Cardio Machines

!9# Safety Tips For Cardio Machines

In the world of cardio machines, you really have your work cut out for you. In using these things, you are expected to push your body and sweat a lot. However, all your workouts are always secondary to your overall health. Improper use or improper cardio machine selection can negatively impact your overall health and even physically hurt you if not immediately then in the long run. So, to help you out, here are some safety tips for using cardio machines.

Tips for Beginners
When you are starting out, you should always consult a professional or a health care provider if your planned exercises are going to be healthy for you. You may have certain conditions that can be exacerbated by your planned workout. It might be a good idea to do this even before you go out to select your cardio machine.

One tip in selecting your cardio machine is to try to factor in existing conditions that you may have. If you already sit all day, a stationary bike may not be the best of choices. This can lead to posture or back problems due to prolonged sitting. If you have bad knees, a stair master or step mill may not be the machine for you since it does place a certain amount of stress on your knees.

Pre-Workout
You should develop a pre-workout routine which should include stretching and warm up exercises. These are not meant to make you sweat, only to help your muscles prepare for the strain they will be going through in the workout. Many injuries can be avoided with proper warm-ups.

Slow Down
You never want to go beyond your level. If you start to feel dizzy or out of breathe you are most probably pushing yourself beyond your limit. If ever you experience this, slow down the cardio machine's setting (if available). You should consult your health provider as well to make sure you are not suffering from any exercise-related conditions.

If you are a beginner, try starting out with 5 minute low intensity workouts. Keep timing yourself and as you get more acclimated to the activities, start increasing the length of time or the intensity. You want to work yourself up to around 10 minutes of moderate level workouts at a time. Your daily goal should be around a total of 30 minutes of workout so you can do three 10 minute sessions on your cardio machine a day.

Also, don't forget to read the safety manual on your cardio machine. Often, people get so excited about the new machine that they get on it right away without the required information to operate it safely and effectively. Not only will you be negating your exercise goals, you can actually put yourself in harms way.

Hydrate
Never forget to drink before, during, and after. Water is one of the things your body is going to use up when you exercise. Studies show that almost 75% of Americans do not drink the appropriate amount of water. Try to drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.

Post Workout
Don't forget to cool down after the workouts. Stretch one more time and try to gradually slow your body down from the activity.

5 The stepper is a cardio workout challenge can improve heart health and burn calories.

When you start, I suggest you just jump on the treadmill for about 10-15 minutes at a time on a simple level. It may take a few tries, down the rhythm and coordination. Try it with 15 minutes on a different computer, such as a treadmill or bicycle ergometer. This is a great way to keep challenging your body and not get bored with one device.
